World Series Final Game Attracts 51M Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB stated this marks the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game landed in 13th position.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-match series drew 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership was 16.1 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
